My story as a BE fresher

My write-ups are mainly focused on fresh engineers who are out there in the market who are DESPERATELY looking for a job.

My story and the take-away message for you

I was graduated in 2003 with a bachelors in computer science .It was always a question ,what to do after the graduation. There were no seniors or gurus who could mentor us . Like many others we ended up in this new (for us) IT city of India, Bangalore. We had no clue what we going to do in Bangalore .
Message1 :Go for it ! Dont be confined to your comfort zone .Get out and explore !

Job hunt begins - 1st Jan 2004 .
With the whole burden of education loan and cost of living there was always a desperation to find a job from the day one itself. Walked around every nook and corner of the city and submitted our resumes , attended many walk-ins without any luck.  Goal was to sneak in to any company that has a computer job .
Message2 :Big or small .. Take up what ever gives you an opportunity to learn.

1 month later - First break through .
Found this tiny column in AdMag classifieds where they needed a junior PHP programmer .Size of the company was as small as the ad . It was a web development company with a team size of 6 including the two directors . Though I was not good at programming , all the R&Ds done during the engg days came in to play. Interviewer was impressed with the conceptual knowledge I had.Started my job with a salary of 2500Rs/month !!  ( yes, two thousand and five hundred )

Message3 :  Learn the concepts.Read. Do practice on your computer. Discuss scenarios with your friends. Nobody ask you syntax , all they care is your understanding of a subject .

3 months later - Wipro hired me.
Got through a freshers walkin drive and all my 3 months experience played a major role to crack the final interview. Fresher with "little experience" always helps !.

Message4 : Being experienced (even its little) has its own advantage .So make learning a habit and be open to any technology (Advice for the desperate job seekers)

I never had to look back since then .Unlike many other jobs , IT job demands an up to date knowledge of the technology. Even now I read manuals and books to keep up with the customer needs.

Right now I have 12 years of work experience and work with Apple Inc as Oracle DBA (database administrator)
